Game Music Videos, also known as machinima music videos or GMV's are a type of machinima video that uses video game footage to tell the story of a song. Taking a song, remix or more than one song and matching it to recorded gameplay footage from one or more video games the video producer is able to create a deep detailed and visually stimulating experience with relatively little expense.
GMV's can be made with hundreds of different games. Most times the GMV's are made using MMORPG games because the characters have a far wider range of action and emotion than other types of games. Popular mmo's like World of Warcraft are used to make Warcraft music videos, RuneScape to make a RuneScape music video, etc..
However other types of games like first person shooters, real-time strategy, and other gameplay types can be used to make game music videos like call of duty music videos or counter strike music videos.
